Yesterday was a dark day. My mind was filled with vile thoughts and images. Truth be told, I didn’t much like what I saw or felt, didn’t much like me. Little did I know that this dark day would turn bright.
But then an intervention, of sorts. I received an unexpected text on my phone, one filled with joy. I responded and had the most uplifting conversation with someone who’d spent the day colouring and brushing the dog. It was shared with such unabashed joy and innocence.
Already I could feel my mood shift. The darkness I was feeling lifted as the light shone on it. Slowly, it gave way.
But my mood really took flight when we agreed I’d read a story – a story from the world of Winnie-the-Pooh, a story about Tigger. My friend called, I looked for a story and when I found it, I read.
The images in my mind were no longer the vilest creations. Instead, they were of Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore. The darkness gave way to frivolity and joy. By the end of the story, I was smiling, my friend was nodding off. A much better mindset than the one I had.
And that’s how a dark day turns bright.
